Planning a Hawaii Honeymoon
Filed Under (Honeymoons) by Danielle on 07-10-2008
There is no doubt that a Hawaii honeymoon is the dream of thousands of couples, young and old alike. Hawaii is widely known for it’s beautiful scenery and tropical climates. That’s probably why Hawaii is one of the top locations for couples shopping honeymoon packages. My sister and her husband went to Hawaii for their honeymoon, and they absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back. Many travel agents and other experts claim that there is something for nearly everyone in Hawaii, and after looking at some of their research, I can really see where they are coming from. There are some great advantages to planning a Hawaii honeymoon, and one major disadvantage that may make you think twice before you take the trip.
Hawaii Honeymoons - Something for Everyone
Hawaii consists of 5 extremely beautiful islands that are all unique and special in their own right. Here is a quick rundown of the different islands and what they are distinguished for.
Maui - Maui is called “The Valley Island” because of the two volcanic mountain ranges that make up the east and west parts of this island.
Maui is the second largest island in the Hawaiian chain and is packed with long beautiful sandy beaches, tropical rain forests, spectacular cliffs and much more. In fact, Maui has been long hailed for it’s legendary beaches, golf courses, snorkeling and surfing. This is a great island for tourism, and a popular location for couples planning a Hawaii honeymoon.
Kauai - Kauai is called the “Garden Island” and is known for the beauty of its cascading mountains, streams and of course, beaches. Kauai is the most pristine of the major Hawaiian islands, and you’re sure to get the feeling of how the old Hawaii still lives. If you’re traveling to this island, be aware there is little public transportation, and rental cars are highly recommended. One of the great things about Kauai, besides it’s pristine scenery are the tropical climates. Most of the year, the temperatures on Kauai range in the mid 70’s.
Oahu - Oahu is home to 75% of the state’s population. Here you’ll find miles of white sandy beaches and turquoise seas right along with outstanding restaurants, nightclubs, shopping and historical sites. Other popular attractions are a Zoo, the Waikiki Aquarium, gardens and more. The north shore of Oahu has long soft white sandy beaches and lots of surfing and snorkeling. Oahu is an excellent island for couples looking stay busy and enjoy the many activities the island has for it’s tourists.
Hawaii - The Big Island, the largest island in the Hawaiian chain is built over five volcanoes, and is an island of many different areas. The scenery changes here every few miles from lush rain forests, to barren black lava fields, to snow capped peaks. You can visit the world’s most active volcano, Kilauea, which has been spewing lava almost continually since 1983. Hawaii has beautiful waterfalls, lava caves, tide pools, beautiful flowers, beautiful beaches, world class golf courses and of course luxury resorts.
Lanai - This is Hawaii’s most secluded island, making it perfect for a romantic Hawaii honeymoon. This island is only 18 miles wide and 13 miles long. For comfort, seclusion, style and grace, Lanai is a great island to visit.
Hawaii Honeymoon - Budgeting Accordingly!
A Hawaii honeymoon may be a dream for many couples, but there is a major fact you need to be aware of when planning your dream honeymoon vacation. There are no all inclusive Hawaii vacation packages like there are on other honeymoons you could be planning. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out What are All Inclusive Honeymoons for more information. Basically this means that in Hawaii you are on your own for all of your meals, drinks, tips and activities. And don’t think you can go and find food very cheaply either. Most food products in Hawaii are expensive, you are on an island.
In describing the major disadvantage I saw with planning a Hawaii honeymoon, please understand that I’m not trying to put a damper on planning a wedding to this location at all. I only want to make you aware of the costs you will be looking at, so that you will be able to budget accordingly once you arrive. It just wouldn’t do to have you and your bride having to wire home for more money a day into your trip.
