Are Online Honeymoon Deals Safe?

Filed Under (Honeymoons) by Danielle on 07-23-2008

Are Online Honeymoon Deals Safe? When my husband and I were planning our honeymoon, we needed to find the best deal necessary, while still having a great honeymoon. My family was helping me with paying for the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception, but my husband was paying for the honeymoon all by himself. Not only that, but we had just purchased a small starter home for ourselves that he was already feeling the heat on with as well. So needless to say, we really needed to find a great deal on a terrific honeymoon. We talked to some friends who pointed us to a nearby travel agency with a favorite agent that they had there, but we just couldn’t seem to get through to her that we wanted a great honeymoon on a number that we considered to be in our budget (not a price she kept telling us was a great deal). So eventually, exhausted, discouraged and frustrated, we decided to go a different route. If this is you, and travel agencies just don’t seem to be getting you anywhere, why not go to the Internet? Which is just what we did. I’ll explain how we got there.

Finding Honeymoon Packages Online

I don’t know why we didn’t think of it before, looking for honeymoon packages online. Our honeymoon just seemed like something so important to shop for that any online packages wouldn’t be able to help us. Boy were we wrong.

We got the names of a couple of reasonable and still very trustworthy websites that offered some great honeymoon packages without having to make an appointment with a travel agent in an office. Plus, when we signed up and paid for our trip, we got to talk to a travel agent online who was able to help us through the entire process. Not too shabby. But don’t let me fool you, booking your honeymoon online through one of these sites can be dangerous if you’re not careful. How can you protect yourself?

Don’t trust Everyone

This should be a no brainer. Just because you find a pretty professional looking website with some great honeymoon deals does not mean that you are going to get what you pay for. Be sure to research the site well and read some online reviews about that site, get some feedback from customers who have used their services before. The last thing you want to be stuck with is some worthless tickets to the honeymoon of your dreams and an empty pocketbook.

Talking to a Travel Agent Online

Perhaps the thing that helped my husband and I the most was being able to talk to a travel agent online. They were able to reassure us that everything was indeed legit and that they were a trustworthy, and actually a leading honeymoon package provider in their area.

How was Our Honeymoon?

Honestly, our honeymoon was flawless. Our tickets were received well in time for our flights, and there were no delays on the plane. Someone from the company picked us up from the airport and drove us to our resort at no extra fee. Plus, on top of it all, there was always someone there from that company at the resort in case we had any questions or needed any kind of help at all. He made sure that we had honeymooning gifts in our rooms every day, and really stayed on top of his stuff.  He knew us by name and greeted us upon sight each time. We had an unforgettable honeymoon vacation, and I would recommend them to anyone.

I’ve said all this to say that just because you may not be finding exactly what you want in the office of a local travel agent doesn’t mean that you’re just out of luck when it comes to your honeymoon. A local travel agent can have some great deals to offer, but that just didn’t work for us in our situation. My advice to couples shopping around for a great honeymoon? Check some online sites and maybe even talk to a travel agent online with one of these websites to help you find the best honeymoon for your dollar.
